About Us

New Beginnings Mission was launched in 2003 as the welfare arm of New Beginnings Christian Centre Inc. which is an incorporated non-profit association. NBCCI is a registered charity with Australian Taxation Office DGR status. With its headquarters in Wallsend, the Mission is managed by Ps. Kathleen Burley.

What we do

Our “HELP” program provides practical assistance to the genuine needy of our community in the way of handyman services, car maintenance and light repairs, companionship, shopping for disabled etc., garden maintenance and lawn mowing, child minding & respite (day or overnight), transport, housework, provision of meals and visitation of sick (home and hospital). We also have supplied many other forms of practical support such as furniture, fridges, computers, groceries and cash etc. Because there is no charge made for these services, and because of our limited resources, we try to ensure that only genuine needs are met. We also operate a program entitled “Take a Friend to Court” which does not encourage litigation against peers as it may sound but rather provides trained and reliable volunteers to accompany people (of both genders) to Local, District and Family Law courts. Anyone who has ever had to face a court appearance knows that it is an extremely lonely and daunting experience, especially in the area of disputed custody battles and apprehended domestic violence orders. This service is provided totally free of charge to all. We also operate a “Pilates-style” fitness class for girls and women. The cost is $3 per session and there are no, of course, contracts or sign-up procedures or fees. Again, this is an initiative of New Beginnings but in no way a “church thing”. Our new Playgroup, too, is an activity sponsored by New Beginnings but is totally autonomous and is fully registered with Playgroups Australia. Our next initiative is to set up emergency accommodation facilities for individuals and families in crisis situations.
